DID YOU EVER HEARD DEEPA MALIK ?
Deepa Malik was born on 30 September 1970 at Bhainswal, Haryana, India came to limelight when she became the first Indian women to win a medal in Paralympic Games . She won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Shot Put.
HOW THE JOURNEY STARTED?
Deepa started her career as an athlete at the age of 30 . Since than she never turned back. She never stopped. She participated in several sports like, Shot put, Javelin Throw, Discus Throw, Swimming and motorcycling. She became the member of working group in the formulation 12th five year plan (2012–2017). . She is the brand ambassador ‘CLEAN INDIA’ for NMDC .She was elected as President of Paralympic.
Deepa registered her name twice in the Limca Book of Records. In 2008, once for crossing a 1 km stretch of the Yamuna river against the current, and then again in 2013 for covering 58 km by riding a special bike. So she is a daring biker, efficient swimmer, car rallyist, social activist, motivational speaker, a successful entrepreneur and a member of Bharatiya Janata Party . She has excelled in all such fields in which she has taken interest.
BEGINNING WAS NOT A CAKE WALK
It was not an easy begin . Deepa was facing challenges since the early age of five. Deepa Malik suffers from spinal tumour and has underwent 31 surgeries and got 183 stitches. She had three spinal surgeries and is one of the most severely disabled categories. Despite all odds, she won the silver medal at the Rio Paralympics 2016 at the age of 45 , When even a normal person gives up all the ambitions and accepts the fate, Deepa is unstoppable.

I did not want to be called a patient all of my life because I sit on a wheelchair. I wanted my wheelchair to turn in to my strength, my power and become a true identity in a different strength. People call me wheelchair bound, I say I am “Wheelchair—liberated”.
